Deane and Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Labrador | ![]() |
|
June 26 - Asheville, NC to Charleston, SC - 305 Miles |
| Here we are in Charleston, South
Carolina. "Charleston you say? We thought those guys were
going to Labrador. How come they went so far south, to wind up in
the southern part of South Carolina? Did they go to the East coast
and turn right instead of left?"
Well, we have a few days to kill before we get back on our planned itinerary, and we are just wandering to our heart's content. Norm suggested Charleston because on a prior visit he found so many fun things to see and do. Deane hadn't been there, but was enthused and is always ready to go somewhere new. We started out today with rain drizzling, riding down to "Chimney Rock", a high point to look out over the Smoky Mountains near Asheville. We hoped it would be dryer there, but as we approached the area we rode through a downpour. So, we continued on to the Honda dealership where Deane's brake switch assembly was supposed to arrive in the morning. The part did come, and the bike was fixed by about 2 PM. While we were waiting, Deane sold a motorcycle. A couple were looking at a 2001 Gold Wing 1800 just like Deane's, and were a little tentative, but really wanted it. Since the salesmen were busy, Deane demonstrated all of the features, told them that the price was right, and assured them that they would have a lot of fun riding it. When we left, they were in buying the Gold Wing. (No commission for Deane though.) The distance to Charleston was only about 260 miles from there, so away we went. We rode through rain showers for much of the way, some light, some heavy. We put on the rain gear, took it off, put it on, took it off .... you get the idea. But the ride wasn't bad and we reached Charleston at about 8 PM. Tomorrow will be our day to be tourists in Charleston. |
