July 23 - Third Day on Nordik Express Ferry |
| We're on the home stretch with this
ferry. Tonight we will land in Rimouski, Quebec, and get back on the
motorcycles.
It's been a lazy day for us, eating well and just reading or talking to others. We had a good time talking to the two motorcyclists from Montreal, and got some more directions from them as to what to see and do in Montreal. Our ferry stopped two places today, once very early at Havre-Saint-Pierre, on the North Shore, and once at Port Menier, on the island of Anticosti, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The total number of intermediate stops in the three days is now nine. It typically takes about 1 1/2 hours at each stop, because of the container unloading and loading. Today has been beautiful, with sunshine, blue seas and blue skies, and a brisk breeze. There has been a fair swell running in the sea, but our ship has maintained a course that takes the swells directly on the bow, so our ride has been very pleasant and we've not had any rolling. Our ferry has made up for a large amount of its delay when we boarded. When we boarded at Blanc Sablon, the northeast end of the run, the ferry departed five hours late. Now after three days of travel, it has cut that down to an estimated two hours late into our final destination, Rimouski. That has been important to us so that we don't arrive in the middle of the night. It looks like we will be OK. The ferry has been fun to ride, we've eaten well, and we've seen ports of call that we couldn't have done any other way, but we're READY TO RIDE again! |
