Deane & Norm's Motorcycle Trip in Northern & Eastern Europe and Scandinavia |

July 29,Turning in the Rental Motorcycles - Heidelberg, and taking Train to Frankfurt 100 Km (62 Miles) |
|
Turning in the motorcycles was easy, since we were ready to go home. But we had an absolutely great time over all!! We did have some damage to Deane's bike, first from that thief trying to pry into a hard bag in Budapest, and snapping off part of the lock. And although I am embarrassed, I have to admit that I had a tip-over in the parking lot on the first day, causing a broken mirror. (The bike is top-heavy - really.) The total damage came to $300, fair for the cost of repair. Just chalk it up to the expense of a great adventure. (By the way, I and my Gold Wing friends say that if you haven't dropped a bike in a parking lot, you haven't gone very many places - so I feel OK.) We took a fast German train from Heidelberg to Frankfurt airport, and those trains really move. I happened to be standing next to a "speedometer" display showing our speed, and the highest number I saw was 194 km/h - 120 miles per hour!! We had a struggle finding our hotel in Frankfurt, in that the reservations person had not given a total phone number. It lacked one digit, unbeknown to us. We looked and looked for some indication, when Norm did locate someone who knew how it should be sequenced. Maddening to have something so simple take two frustrating hours. Tomorrow it's catch the plane for home. We'll see how that goes. |
