Deane & Jack's Motorcycle Trip in

Australia and New Zealand

March 22 - In & Around Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

60 km (36 Miles)

Today was a day of rest and one to see the capital city.  Canberra, in the Australia Capital Territory, is like Washington DC.

It is a much smaller city than either Brisbane or Sydney, and very attractive, with wide streets, large residential lots, and plenty of green grass, trees, and bushes.  The traffic is very much more manageable, and getting around is easy.

We first went to the Australia Parliament Building, and got into a small tour.  The parliament was in session, so that made it interesting.

Then we went up to a park and tower on the highest mountain around, and had a good overview.

Our major interest in the afternoon, was to go to the Australia National Museum.  That was really interesting, both about the Aboriginal people and the early Northern European settlers.

On a different aspect, flying free in the residential areas, there are some really spectacular birds here, -  red, green, blue on some, and white and yellow on others.  They are really noisy, with their cries.

After a day of interesting things, we are ready to hit the road again.
