Deane & Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Alaska

July 4 & 5 - Billings, MT - "WING DING" Motorcycle Rally

Here we are, at the biggest Gold Wing rally of the year, with thousands of Gold Wingers, vendors of everything known to motorcycling man and motorcycling woman, and of course, demonstrator motorcycles to ride.

The first day is one to look for friends, both from home and from other places, whom we’ve met before, as well as look through all of the vendor’s booths.  We also signed up for demos of new Honda motorcycles, so that each of us rode a new motorcycle that we hadn’t ridden before.  Big Boys and their Toys!!

Deane’s brother David (from Boise, Idaho) and his friend Tony Cooper caught up with us in Billings, after Tony’s bike had ignition trouble near Idaho Falls and they had to get it fixed.  They were to meet us the night before in Thermopolis, WY, but the motorcycle trouble made them a day late in catching up with us.  We enjoyed doing the rally things with them, and then they went their way back to Boise.

The second day Norm, myself, and Dave Stewart from Deane’s Gold Wing Chapter in Albuquerque rode out to the “Little Bighorn Battlefield Monument”, which is the place of “Custer’s Last Stand”.  This is quite interesting, in that one gains a real understanding of the battle with the terrain involved.

After two days at the rally, it was time for Norm and I to get on the trail to Alaska.
