August 10, Albuquerque to Grand Junction, CO - 390 Miles

Who are these crazy people, and how much "rolling stock" do they have?

Deane has his blue Honda "Gold Wing", and his yellow Suzuki "V-Strom", while Norm has his red Honda "Gold Wing" and Kay's white Honda "Pacific Coast".  To start, the V-Strom and the Pacific Coast motorcycles are carried in the trailer, pulled by Norm and Kay's 24 ft. motor home.  Later on, the Gold Wings will be in the trailer and the other two motorcycles will be on the ground, for riding gravel roads.  At any time Deane and Norm will have two motorcycles on the ground and two motorcycles in the trailer.  Kay will drive the motor home pulling the trailer!!

So off we went, with the first day being a long one, when one considers the route.  We drove from Albuquerque to Durango, Colorado, and on up and over three 10,000 ft. passes in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, on our way to Grand Junction.

This is one of the most beautiful and spectacular areas of Colorado, with towering rocky cliffs, Pine and Aspen forests, beautiful lakes, and grand vistas.

Deane and Norm had ridden this route before, and it is fairly easy with high-powered motorcycles, but it was Kay's first time in driving the motor home in mountains.  The motor home pulled well, and Kay drove it well, but some of the high mountain roads were pretty slow.

After a long day, we arrived in Grand Junction and settled in for the night.
